A note from Scott

Austin Bead Society,

It is my great pleasure to be the guest speaker for the September meeting (09/26). I will be leading the members in assembling the allusive Jens Pind chain bracelet in a tri-metal pattern to help simplify the learning curve of this spiraling rope chain pattern. Between now and then, I am assigning each of you the homework task of reviewing the Jens Pind chain tutorial to better visualize the repetitive angled pattern of every third ring at:

http://www.davidchain.com/jens_tut1.htm

I will also need each participant to bring two pair of jewelry pliers to the September meeting, and if you have extra pliers please bring those as you know some will forget. I would also recommend that you bring a work surface of a felt cloth or beading board to contain all the findings and separate the rings into the three colored pattern. We will be working with jump rings that are 16-gauge (1.3mm) thick with a 6mm diameter, so they are certainly not small rings. However, the magnification of an optivisor or reading glasses with a task lamp lighting (extension cord) will assist in seeing the assemble details.

I will be providing the jump ring kits with printed handouts for $7.50. To help expedite collecting this material fee, I would appreciate if you can bring these funds in cash or check, as I will not be accepting credit cards. If you want to move beyond base metal, I will also have kits available in silver; along with books, tools, dvds, and finished jewelry.

Until we meet in September, may your path be paved in gold and enlightened by bliss.

Many thanks, Scott David Plumlee.

DON'T FORGET THE BEAD JAR

What is the bead jar?  The bead jar is a collection of odds and ends (beads) collected from all of  our members and raffled off once a year.  You never know what you will find - one person's trash is another persons treasure! So it only gets to be fun if everyone remembers to bring those unwanted extra beads and things to help fill the jar.
